Bill Mollison: PERMACULTURE: A Designers' Manual
Permaculture is a system for designing sustainable human environments. The word permaculture is a contraction of permanent agriculture or permanent culture. The term was coined by Bill Mollison, an Australian ecologist, who developed this sustainable agriculture system along with David Holmgren in 1974. The image on this page, the Egg of Life, is the classic permaculture symbol. The coiled rainbow snake, the Earth-shaper, is based on a story that is told by the Australian aboriginal people. For more information about the rich symbolism behind this wonderful image, and permaculture in general, please visit the Web site of the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia. |
